Shay Smith

Dr. Shay Smith began her career at the Florida Department of Health in 2013 as a nurse practitioner, working in the family planning, STD, and maternity clinics. Upon graduation from nursing school, she moved to a staff nurse role on an oncology and infectious inpatient unit and a pediatric residential mental and behavioral health facility. 

She has subsequently served as an adult nurse practitioner, sexual assault nurse examiner, and assistant community health nursing director. Dr. Shay is a member of the statewide Health Information Management Committee for the Florida Department of Health and a board member for the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and regularly performs community service. 

She has a special interest in reducing teenage and adolescent pregnancies and sexually transmitted infection transmission. Dr. Shay aspires to own a mobile teen clinic to provide care to underserved teens in various communities. 

Dr. Shay also earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Women’s Health and Adult Primary Care from Emory University, as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Miami.
